Kirkcaldy Golf Club ranked in top 50 parkland courses and top 50 hidden gems

22nd December 2016

A leading golf magazine, “Today’s Golfer” has paid tribute to Kirkcaldy Golf Course in not one, but two of their Top 50 UK reviews.

The course was recognised as one of the UK’s Top 50 Parkland courses in August. The magazine described it as a splendid and challenging course with dramatic views of the Firth of Forth.  The following month highlighted Kirkcaldy again as the course was featured as one of the UK’s Top 50 Hidden Gems, where the layout is excellent and the value is “astonishing”.

The course was originally designed by Old Tom Morris in 1904 so has a long heritage in Fife golf and was described by the magazine as a “foil to the region’s top links courses”. In recent years, the Club has invested time and money to enhance its reputation as an attractive course to play.

Golf professional at Kirkcaldy, Brendan McDermott said:“The investment has certainly paid off and naturally we are delighted to be listed in two of the magazine’s top 50 reviews. It’s great for promoting Kirkcaldy to visitors from other parts of Scotland and further afield. We already have golfers coming from Scandinavia and the Netherlands and accolades in magazines like this are sure to boost visitor numbers from around the UK, too.  The Fife golf experience can be enjoyed in a wide range of courses, often at a fraction of the cost of the iconic courses.”

Guests are well looked after off the course, too.  Capitalising on the coffee shop trend, the Clubhouse is open for members and non-members as a comfortable place to meet for coffee as well as use for weddings and social functions. Great customer service is also important and all staff have now undergone WorldHost customer service training.

Stephen Owen, chair of the Fife Golf Partnership, said:“This is a fantastic accolade for Kirkcaldy Golf Club and shows how important it is to invest to meet customers’ needs. Reviews in influential magazines like “Today’s Golfer” are very important for business.  People want to spend their money wisely on great golf, interesting locations and being well looked after.  I’m delighted that Kirkcaldy has been recognised like this and am sure it will be part of a very successful 2017.”
